NEGA Arts Tour Stop: Step into Creativity at Harding Studio & Gallery

Tucked away in the hills just outside Dahlonega, Harding Studio & Gallery is a hidden gem where imagination takes form on canvas. During the Northeast Georgia Arts Tour, June 6–8, 2025, this working studio invites visitors into the creative heart of painter Scott Harding.

Scott Harding’s journey as an artist began before he could even speak—his earliest memories are filled with daydreams and drawings. His talent quickly caught the attention of others when, at the age of 13, one of his illustrations was chosen to promote the new lion exhibit at the Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend, Indiana. He honed his skills through formal study in New York, Chicago, and Italy, and began his professional career as an assistant illustrator just as the field was shifting from traditional methods to digital. Embracing this change with curiosity and adaptability, Scott quickly rose to the forefront of the industry.

Yet, it was a return to his roots—and a serendipitous meeting with mentor David Hettinger in a live model drawing class—that reignited his love for traditional media. Under David’s guidance, Scott developed his signature wet-onto-wet oil painting style: a technique that captures the delicate interplay of light and shadow with influences spanning from the Renaissance to contemporary art. When asked what fuels his creativity, Scott reflects:

Beauty is everywhere around us. So much negativity surrounds us, but art can bring a spark of happiness into that darkness. That inspires me every day.

As you walk through the doors of Scott’s gallery right off the historic Dahlonega Square, you’ll find the walls alive with expressive landscapes, vibrant florals, and abstract pieces that capture the emotional spirit of the North Georgia mountains. Scott’s work is deeply inspired by nature and movement—and so is the experience of visiting his studio.

Throughout the weekend, guests can chat with Scott and watch live painting demos. It’s an intimate look into the artist’s world, and a rare chance to connect one-on-one with the person behind the paint.

Tour-goer tip: Looking for something that doesn’t go on the wall? Go “off the wall” with one of Scott’s amazing paintings on a pillow or other home goods!

During Northeast Georgia Arts Tour weekend, June 6–8, be sure to stop at Harding Studio & Gallery and enjoy Scott’s wonderful work on display!
