Member Spotlight: Tom and Betty Hubbard Named Lumpkin County Senior Center Volunteers of the Month
We are thrilled to celebrate DAA-er Tom and his wife, Betty Hubbard who were recently honored as the Lumpkin County Senior Center’s Volunteers of the Month! This well-deserved recognition highlights the inspiring spirit of community service that the Hubbards bring to everything they do.
At 92 years young, Tom Hubbard is a remarkable example of active living and giving back. Under the whimsical name "Bird Brainz," Tom crafts one-of-a-kind, tree-hugging birdhouses that bring joy to gardens and nature lovers alike. His creativity is matched only by his commitment to volunteerism. Tom and Betty have given a remarkable 10 years of service with Meals on Wheels while also volunteering with the Friends of the Dahlonega Gold Museum, the Dahlonega Arts Alliance, and many other organizations. When he’s not volunteering, you can often find Tom do-si-do-ing with the Gold City Squares, keeping the tradition of square dancing alive and vibrant in Lumpkin County.
Tom’s passion for community service was also highlighted in The Dahlonega Nugget in 2023, where he was celebrated for his energetic lifestyle and dedication to volunteer work. It's no surprise that he continues to inspire so many people around him.
Service runs deep in the Hubbard family. Tom & Betty are the proud parents of fellow DAA-er, local storyteller, and painter Melanie Knauff who carries forward the family tradition of using creativity and passion to enrich the community.
Congratulations to Tom and Betty Hubbard for this well-earned honor—and thank you both for all you do!
