DAA Celebrates Summer with Lumpkin County Library’s Summer Reading Program Kick Off

The Dahlonega Arts Alliance was proud to participate in the Lumpkin County Library Summer Reading Program kickoff event on Saturday, May 30th, helping local children celebrate the start of a summer filled with creativity, learning, and community connection.

DAA hosted a hands-on craft area where children had the opportunity to play and create using this year’s Summer Art Kits. The activity space stayed busy throughout the event as young artists explored their creativity and enjoyed making art alongside friends and family.

The success of the DAA activity area was made possible thanks to the generous help of volunteers Bobby Youngblood, Elizabeth Price, and Sheralyn Shadle, who welcomed families and helped children engage with the craft activities throughout the day.

The event brought together a wide variety of local organizations committed to supporting children and families in Lumpkin County. Other participants included the Friends of the Library, Lumpkin Literacy, Connectability, Community Helping, Healthy Families Family Medicine, and UNG Publishing, each offering resources, activities, and information for attendees.

One of the highlights of the day was the “Touch a Truck” area hosted by local first responders. Children were excited to explore a real-life ambulance, fire truck, and police vehicles while meeting the individuals who help keep the community safe every day.

The Dahlonega Arts Alliance is grateful to the Lumpkin County Library for organizing such a meaningful community event and for continuing to encourage creativity, literacy, and lifelong learning for local families.
