Dalton’s New Cabinet of Artistic Curiosities: DAA-er Margeaux Wex Opens New Gallery
DAA is proud to celebrate an exciting milestone for one of our own! Margeaux Wex—DAA Secretary and well known artist—has officially opened the Margeaux Wex Gallery in Dalton, Georgia, bringing a bold and imaginative new art space to the region.
Art has been central to Margeaux’s life from the very beginning. As she shares, “I grew up with art as a constant presence in my life. My mother was an artist, and I was raised in a very modest household where creativity was woven into everyday living.” Surrounded by “bold colors, bright patterns, and expressive design” of the 70s and 80s, along with music and “classic spooky cinema,” Margeaux developed a visual language rooted in nostalgia, atmosphere, and storytelling. For her, “making art has never felt optional; it’s something I carry with me regardless of medium or circumstance.”
That lifelong creative drive is evident in both her artwork and her curatorial vision. Influenced by “music, culture, pop art, and goth/horror themes,” Margeaux describes her goal simply: “I want my art to spark joy and nostalgia, provoke thought and interest, and sometimes invite a bit of playful darkness.”
Opening her own gallery felt like a natural evolution. “I just wanted to create a unique and interesting place where artists, people of like minds, and collectors can come together,” she explains. With an entrepreneurial background and an existing business focused on movie memorabilia and pop culture collectibles, the gallery became “a natural fit and kind of evolution of that space.”
What truly sets the Margeaux Wex Gallery apart is its immersive approach. “The gallery is meant to feel like a modern cabinet of curiosities,” Margeaux says. Rather than a traditional white-wall experience, the space blends original fine art, oddities, and vintage curio pieces to “create conversation and connection.” Her selections focus on “work that has meaning and unusual character, things that make people pause or smile,” creating an environment where objects and art “live together to tell stories.”
Dalton itself played a role in inspiring the gallery. “Dalton has its own artistic energy,” Margeaux notes. “I saw an opportunity to create a space that’s creative, but also a little unexpected.” And judging by visitor reactions—“Wow, this place is really unique”—she’s succeeded.
Looking ahead, Margeaux envisions the gallery as a hub for connection. “I want the gallery to be a place of connection for artists, collectors, curious minds,” she says, adding that she’s especially excited about collaborations that “blur boundaries—art, events, experiences.”
DAA congratulates Margeaux Wex on this incredible achievement. Her gallery is not only a reflection of her distinctive creative voice, but also a meaningful contribution to the cultural landscape of North Georgia—and a perfect example of DAA artists leading with vision, courage, and creativity.
